John Carew, Jim Buchanan and Jim Gleason – John Carew sings and plays Irish, Scottish and American folk music. Performing since his teens, he has played in New England pubs, theaters and coffeehouses. He has been a member of “Another Jig Will Do,” ‘Kinvara,” “AuContraire” and the “Cave Jug Band,” has appeared with “Paddywhack,” has traveled widely in Ireland and Scotland, and has been fortunate to anchor Irish music sessions in Boston for six years. In the recent past, he has accompanied and performed with acclaimed fiddler, Laurel Martin, with the contra band, “Old Favorite,” the “Z-Tones” and with the “John Carew Review.” Today, John will be singing and playing Irish tunes and songs with Jim Buchanan (fiddle, guitar, song) and Jim Gleason (flute, whistle, song). They are all former members of the band “Kinvara.” Jim Gleason has been playing flute since the age of 10 and first joined Comhaltas Ceolteori Erin in Boston in 1978, where he was inspired by the many fine flute players who played the CCE sessions in those days – such as Gene Preston, Frank Neylon, and Jimmy Hogan. Jim teaches tinwhistle and flute lessons for CCE and privately. He has played with Irish Traditional and folk groups in the Boston area and in Connecticut for the past 30 years, including Blackbird, Tinkers Dream, Kinvara, the Stoneybatter Band, and the Billy Carson Band. Jim currently leads a session, along with Jim Buchanan, at Stone’s Public House in Ashland Massachusetts. Jim is a terrific Irish trad flute player. I hope that he shares a funny song or two with us. Also, he’s he’s one of the few trad musicians who plays the spoons well. Really! “We’ll be playing traditional Irish tunes and a few Scottish tunes. I’ll be singing Scottish and Irish songs and a few American pop and folk songs.” ~ John Carew
CONCERT STARTS AT 8pm and a session will take place later in the night. As it is every Wednesday night, Guinness is $4!
