Port Veritas Spoken Word open mic featuring Lola Haskins on March 15th at 7:00pm. Open reading begins at 7:30 followed by the evenings feature at 8:30pm. Open reading begins at 7:30pm.
Lola Haskins lives in Florida but is a Maineophile. She’s published nine books of poems, most lately Still, the Mountain (Paper Kite). A tenth collection, The Grace to Leave, is coming from Anhinga in early 2012. She’s worked with dancers, composers, musicians, and visual artists because she thinks it’s great to be part of something bigger than she is.
Ms. Haskins has won many awards, such as the Iowa Poetry Prize, two NEA fellowships, four fellowships from the Florida Department of State, the Emily Dickinson Prize from Poetry Society of America, and narrative poetry prizes from the New England Review and Southern Poetry Review. That aside, until 2005 her day job was teaching Computer Science at University of Florida in Gainesville. Now, she teaches poetry in a low-res MFA program outside Seattle.
Lola will be joined with Portland cellist Ben Noyes.
