Fiddle player Jesse Smith was born into a musical family. His mother Donna Long has recorded and performed with, most notably, Brendan Mulvihill and the American-based band, Cherish the Ladies. Jesse grew up immersed in the Irish music tradition having spent his childhood surrounded by many of the great Irish American musicians. He started learning the fiddle at age twelve from Brendan Mulvihill. He has been a resident in Ireland since 1998 and has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe with the band Danu for three years, recording two CDs with them, and receiving an award from the BBC in 2001. His well received 2002 solo recording entitled Jigs and Reels appeared in Earle Hitchner’s Top Ten Albums of the Year column in US paper, The Irish Echo. Most recently he has released the CD, ‘The Ewe with the Crooked Horn’ with Colm Gannon and John Blake in 2010. New York State born singer and guitarist, Ryan McGiver, is a sought after accompanist on both sides of the Atlantic, playing both American and Irish music. He has recorded and shared stages with a diverse and eclectic mix of folk and rock musicians including Doug Wieselman, Jolie Holland, Jason Sypher, Shahzad Ismaily and Stephanie Coleman to name a few. When he is not working as a stonemason or playing his own music, Ryan tours with Grammy award-winning singer, Susan McKeown. His debut solo album ‘Troubled in Mind’, co-produced by Shahzad Ismaily is set for a winter 2012 release. www.ryanmcgiver.com
