Maine native, Noel Brennan returns to the Blue stage for the final edition of 2012’s JAZZ AT THE BLUE. Noel is currently living and performing in New York City as a jazz drummer. He’s worked and performed with the talents of John Scofield, Dave Douglas, Brian Lynch, Andy Milne and Ralph Alessi. While working on his master’s degree at NYU he was selected to tour with Davie Pietro. Also while at school, Noel was selected to become an adjunct faculty member, teaching Tabla. He’s also been fortunate enough to perform at many first-rate jazz clubs including The Jazz Gallery, The Stone, The Tea Lounge, Tomi Jazz, Cornelia St. Café and many others.
In 2011 Noel was accepted as a disciple of table meistro Anindo Chatterjee. His Tabla studies began here in Portland under OKBARI’s, Amos Libby, introducing him to Hindustani music and the music of south India. Amos invited Noel on a trip to India where he became a student of his Guru, Vidwan Vasudev Rao. Noel went on to study mridangam in Bangalore…”and it was an eye opening experience.”
Noel will be joined by Marta Sanchez (Piano) and Chris Sprauge (Bass)
They will be playing all original music from members of the band, with a couple of Thelonious Monk tunes.
