Listen Up! presents Dan Woodman & Monique Barrett

Monday - July, 22 @ 6:00pm

Dan Woodman -

Listen Up! Music is proud to announce the release of “Earthdog”, the first solo album by singer/songwriter Dan Woodman of Rochester, Maine. Dan has crafted an album rich with melody, grit, and a plainspoken, rural wisdom that comes from a life lived with an outsider’s eye and perspective. Featuring instrumental assistance from Kyle Morgan of Starcrossed Losers and other Listen Up studio musicians, Dan blends gospel, country, and bluegrass influences with a timelessness that speaks to the deepest definition of “folk music”. His keen-eyed and poetic lyrics address animals, autism, and environmental issues with insight and humor, while calling to mind the works of John Prine, Merle Haggard, and Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris.

Monique Barrett -

The impact of Monique's music can perhaps best be described by a fan – “There’s something about [her] voice that reaches deep into my core and pulls my heart out through my ears". With a unique soul-folk sound, a powerful voice, and an organic, yet well-honed, songwriting style she has firmly established herself as a force in Portland, Maine's flourishing music community.

Listen Up! Music is a Portland, ME-based nonprofit day program and music studio that supports adult musicians with intellectual uniqueness in making music. Established in 2012, Listen Up! provides opportunities for musicians to work on writing, arranging, recording, performing, and marketing their music to the local music community and beyond.

Listen Up! works with musicians of all technical abilities and skills and seeks to promote a musical community based on creativity, excitement, joy, and inclusiveness. In addition to soundtracking much of a local project called TV SHOW (collaborating with The Art Department) we have released six full-length albums of original material, with many more in the works. The musicians receive 50% of the sales of these albums, with the remaining 50% going into running the program and purchasing new instruments and equipment.

In our studio we currently have two computer recording setups, as well as acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, two pianos, amps, drums, percussion, woodwinds, brass, steel drums, and more for our musicians to explore and create with. We've made music ranging from rock/pop, folk, and country to ambient, choral, and noise/sound collages to hip-hop, metal, and more, and have also performed in small spaces and big stages around Portland.

We are always on the lookout for working musical instruments and equipment for borrow or donation, as well as guest musicians who would be interested in volunteering or leading a workshop. Get in contact with us if you are interested!

Listen Up! Music is associated with Composition Studio, The Art Department, Publication Studio, Creative Trails, and The Art Certificate Program in Biddeford.
