Boston-based singer-songwriter Mark Stepakoff is widely admired on the New England folk music scene for his mix of wry humorous material and poignant ballads, in the vein of artists such as John Prine and Loudon Wainwright III, with whom he has frequently been compared. He has released five CDs and has placed four songs in the top 10 on the national “Folk-DJ’ radio airplay chart, reaching as high as number 3.
Mark has received numerous songwriting awards. He has received First Prize in the Great American Song Contest, American Songwriter Magazine lyric contest, and the Smoky Mountain Songwriter Festival song competition, and is a seven-time finalist in the USA Songwriting Competition. He has been a finalist in the Grassy Hill Songwriting Competition and has received Honorable Mention in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, Telluride Troubadour Contest, and Rocky Mountain Folks Singer Songwriter Showcase (3 times).
Mark performs frequently in the Boston area. He has headlined on several occasions at Cambridge's legendary Club Passim, and has also headlined or been featured at, among many other venues, Johnny D's, Tupelo Music Hall, and Nashville’s Bluebird Café. Among the artists he has opened for are Bill Morrissey, Steve Forbert, Buskin & Batteau, Christine Lavin, Cheryl Wheeler, Don White and Claudia Schmidt.
