SAVE MAINE STAGES Fundraising Weekend: Night One - Film Premier

Friday - November, 20 @ 8:00pm

In response to the devastating financial impact the current global health crisis continues to have across the live music industry and on local music venues, the Maine Music Alliance (MEMA) is proud to announce the SAVE MAINE STAGES fundraising weekend on Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21.

SAVE MAINE STAGES is a film premier that will feature songs and words from the Ghost of Paul Revere, Lady Lamb, The Mallett Brothers Band, Weakened Friends, Rustic Overtones, Bell Systems, Kenya Hall, Oshima Brothers and many other musicians who have felt the enormous negative impact of having Portland’s music venues still dark after being the first businesses to close in March. While the film premier will be free, Maine Music Alliance (MEMA) will be soliciting donations throughout the night in order to benefit the most vulnerable local venues. The film premier will be livestreamed off multiple venue platforms (including Blue!).

Over the past six months music venues in Portland, Maine and across the country have been faced with a situation for which no amount of foresight could have prepared them. The venues were the first businesses to close in mid-March with no reopening date in sight, while utility bills, rent, payroll, and other expenses have continued to pile up. While there have been talks of legislation that would serve to alleviate the threats to the live events businesses, optimism has dwindled day-by-day that any assistance will be coming from the federal government.
While MEMA will continue to advocate for music industry interests and the work of the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), the organization has announced a plea to the local community for help. For every dollar spent in a Portland venue there are twelve dollars spent in a neighboring business. The ripple effect of music venue closures will be felt swiftly and mightily throughout the entire ecosystem of Portland.

All seats are first come, first served (feel free to share a table). We do not take reservations.
