The Cheap Ensemble

Saturday - May, 11 @ 8:00pm

A tenor-guitar-drums trio playing ambient and exploratory jazz that is spacious, seeking, interactive, romantic, subtle, lyrical, and at times provocative and restless. Improvised vibes for turbulent times.

2016 BMI/NEA Future Jazz Master Chris Otts (saxophone), innovative guitarist Patrick Arthur, (from Ropeadope recording artists Grüt), and drummer Dana Fitzsimons released their debut CD "The Cheap Ensemble" last year to critical acclaim and spins on over 175 jazz radio stations around the world. The Atlanta-based trio embraces ambient and avant garde approaches and a highly improvisational mindset in support of a consistent lyricism and melodic dominance in their music. Their performance will include selections from their debut CD, excerpts from their upcoming suite “States of America”. and compositions by Paul Motian, Bill Frisell, Chick Corea, and others.

“This highly musical Atlanta-based trio is exploratory, inventive and lyrical” (JazzMostly)

“This is ECM level work from the olden day’s” (Mark Tucker)

“This music constitutes a remarkable debut” (jazzmusicarchives)
